Doodle of the Week

Every Tuesday and Thursday I am forced to endure two straight hours of Liam Purdon's views on Shakespeare. His class is very interesting, don't get me wrong, and Purdon is hilariously entertaining but one can only take so much Shakespeare!

It is because of this boredom that I have become a constant doodler. The margins of my notebook pages are completely covered with random little pictures that pop into my head and get transferred to paper. I am very proud of most of my doodles and have therefore decided
to share them with all of you on a weekly basis. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy creating them.

My first doodle is a rendition of the play "The Taming of the Shrew:"

I think it depicts the "plays with in a play" quite well. First, we have the audience (who I've named Roister Doister...don't know why). Then, we have Sly, the slob who is being tricked into thinking he's a Lord. During the trickery, Sly watches a play which brings us to Kate and Petruchio. Kate's ticked...Petruchio's in love. Finally, we have everyone else (Kate's little sister, Bianca included) who is watching Kate and Petruchio fall in love.

So there you have it. Moving on...

Over the summer I read a lot from Psalms. It was uplifting and God taught me so much about relying on Him. I grew to love Psalm 12:6-7 which says:

The words of the Lord are pure words,
Like silver tried in a furnace of earth,
Purified seven times.
You shall keep them, O Lord,
You shall preserve them from this generation
forever.

Our God's promises are perfect and pure. When He promises something, He'll KEEP IT! It just gives us all the more reason to surrender our lives to Him, trust Him, and become fully devoted followers of Him.

Reading Books and Telling Time

Reading is, perhaps, my most favorite pastime. I love to lose myself in the world of other characters--fictional or otherwise. If I could major in reading, I would...and, in fact, I sort of am.

If I am ever in charge of generating majors for a college, I will instate "Reading" to my list of those offered. To graduate with a degree in readin
g, one must read 3,000 pages (of any book) per semester. Other classes a student must take to fulfill the major requirements are:
  • Beverages that go best with books and how to prepare them
  • Where to find the perfect pair of slippers
  • How to set up and decorate the perfect reading space
While taking these classes you will be able to answer all the "tough questions" such as: Why is it better to read while the weather is blustery?

In other news, I bought a watch and now feel like a real adult. I'm very proud of the fact that I no longer have to dig my phone out of my back pack (risking punishment and ridicule) to see what time it is. I got it at Target...ooooof course.

It has three dials on the face for the day of the week, the day of the month, and the month of the year. I thought that would be nice to have on my wrist...even less digging around in my back pack for my planner. I got home, looked online for directions on how to set it (there were no instructions in the box), and found out that the three handy (or wristy) dials are just decorations! They don't really work. I guess that explains why they are all pointing at 12:00...and why the watch was only $12.99.

Even with the tricky little fakers, I love my new watch.

I hope you all had a wonderful Monday and remember to do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

What's in a Name?

I hemmed...I hawed...and alas, I started a blog.

Here you will find the ramblings of a hum drum mid western girl. I hope to write about the ways God is using me as I finish my last two years of college, stories from my 9th grade English classroom, and all those lovely, little things by which I am inspired to be organized and decoratively "quaint." Although my life usually seems uneventful, God is working and that's reason to be excited.

I chose the name "Grace and Peace" because of the Apostle Paul. He begins most
of his letters in the New Testament with the phrase, "Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." What a wonderful thing to say to someone! Without God's grace and peace I would be lost. Recently, I have relied on both these gifts more than I ever have in my lifetime. We don't deserve either of these things, but God is willing to give them to us anyway. How great is our God!

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year (well, maybe a close second to Christmas) and as the leaves are changing colors, I am reminded of the beautiful canvas of artwork God has created for us. What a blessing to walk outside and enjoy the work of our Lord!

I hope you enjoy my future posts and the beautiful colors of fall!

grace and peace,
Mair
